![]() Before we proceed into one of the more ridiculous things you'll see today, it's important to acclimate yourself with the Southern rap sub-genre of New Orleans Bounce music. Like Go-Go in D.C., Crunk in Memphis, and Baltimore Club, "Bounce music" is distinct to the Crescent City's hip-hop sound and, well, pretty much nowhere else. Not to go all musicologist on you, but it all started with MC T.Tucker and DJ Irv's song "Where Dey At" and transmorphed into some sort of crazy call-and-response-style party music. If you watch HBO's "Treme," you might recall the scene in a recent episode where Davis McAlar takes his mother to a Big Easy nightclub after Thanksgiving dinner and proceeds to be surrounded by booty-shaking vixens. Well, all that NOLA bounce booty clappin' is what happens in Mr. Ghetto's latest joint, expect it happens in the parking lots and aisles of Wal-Mart. Yes, shopping carts and lingerie are involved. If you're not on at least your third cup of coffee of the morning, brace yourself. It's SFW, but you probably don't want your boss looking over your shoulder. You've been warned. |
